Humility in diplomacy achieves tangible results in international affairs

Humility does not connote weakness but rather shows the strength of the country was the echoing message during the presentation of the book ‘Humility in Diplomacy’ by Nigerian Ambassador Bello Kazaure.

At the book launch in Abuja, the Nigerian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Geoffrey Onyeama, said:

‘Humility in diplomacy is very apt, especially in the context of much of what is happening globally. Yes, you might be big, but ultimately, humility is very important.’

He said that humility in diplomacy achieves more tangible results in international affairs than bullying. Minister Onyeama stressed that Nigiera’s diplomacy was the most successful when it acted humbly. He concluded that

‘Humility should be the hallmark of our diplomatic engagement, and if we can master this art, more doors will open for us.’

The book ‘Humility in Diplomacy’ is an important input to the global debate about the future of diplomacy at a time when diplomacy is in crisis.
