Ukraine: USA building silos for grain export

According to the African Union, the Russia–Ukraine crisis has resulted in a potential ‘catastrophic scenario’ of food shortages and price rises. This has been caused by Russia’s blockade of Ukraine’s Black Sea ports.

To overcome this challenge, the USA has proposed the build temporary silos on Ukraine’s borders. The silos would be supplied with grain from Ukrainian railway cars which would then be transferred by European freight cars for distribution to the rest of the world.

According to the Ukrainian Agriculture Ministry, it is expected that the silos will preserve the harvest and secure future grain supplies.
