Trump ties Ukraine aid to rare earth access
On February 3, 2025, President Donald Trump indicated that continued U.S. support for Ukraine in its conflict with Russia may be contingent upon securing access to Ukraine’s rare earth elements, which are vital for modern technology. He emphasised that the U.S. has provided more support than Europe and wants a deal ensuring resource security.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Zelenskyy rejected any U.S.-Russia talks that exclude Ukraine, stressing the need for direct involvement. This move highlights the strategic role of Ukraine’s resources in diplomacy and ongoing war negotiations.
