Fifty years of ping-pong diplomacy

50 years ago, ping pong diplomacy restarted diplomatic relations between China and the United States. Judy Bochenski (15) and Glenn Cowan (19) visited China. This visit and game were followed by President Richard M. Nixon’s visit to China the following year.

Since then, China and USA normalised diplomatic relations and developed comprehensive economic cooperation. Ping-pong diplomacy remains one of the most notable examples of the use of sport for resolving conflicts and developing peaceful relations.
