China and Russia want to create G7 alternative

The imposition of sanctions are driving China and Russia to consider strengthening and expanding its alliances in BRICS with nations in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. The group would be an alternative and a counterweight to the Western-dominated G7.

Argentina and Iran have applied to join the group as full members, while China planned the group’s virtual summit with invitations to 13 countries. However, some members (such at Brazil, India, and South Africa) are not supportive of the group’s expansion strategy.
