Can ‘Destination Earth’ simulate climate changes?

The European Union initiative “Destination Earth” aims to create a virtual model of the Earth for use in simulating climate and weather phenomena.

“Destination Earth,” for example, should simulate climate extremes and server storms.

This initiative is being led by a consortium of EU-related organisation, including the European Space Agency, the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts and the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites.

According to current plans, a virtual model of the entire Earth will be available in ten years.

It is unclear how ‘Destination Earth’ will incorporate economic, social, and political dynamics that influence climate and other aspects of our natural ecosystem.
