Histories (1)

Instagram diplomacy was coined to refer to the diplomatic use of Instagram, mainly in public diplomacy. As the young population shifted from Facebook to Instagram as the main communication channel, diplomatic services adjusted to this shift. They also had to adjust their public diplomacy campaigns to the Instagram style of communication, which is centred around sharing images and video messages.

Some examples of Instagram diplomacy include heads of state and foreign ministries using the platform to share photos and videos of their official visits, cultural events, or meetings with foreign leaders. Countries also use Instagram to promote their tourism industries, showcase their cuisine and traditional dresses, and highlight their achievements in science, technology, and the arts.

Based on the experience with Facebook and Twitter diplomacy, Instagram diplomacy will, most likely, slide into obsolescence with time.
