Bernardino Regazzoni

Ambassador Bernardino Regazzoni is the President of the Board of DiploFoundation

Ambassador Regazzoni was born in Lugano in 1957.

Holder of a doctorate in philosophy, he joined the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs in 1988 and completed his internship at the Integration Office (Federal Department of Foreign Affairs / Federal Department of Economic Affairs) and the Swiss Embassy in Abidjan. After a posting as first assistant to the Head of Mission in Kinshasa in 1990, he returned to Bern three years later to head the Francophonie Service in Political Division I (Europe, North America).

In 1996, he was Deputy Head of Political Division I, responsible for bilateral political relations with Europe and North America countries, with the title of Minister from 1999. In the same year, he was appointed Advisor for Diplomatic Affairs to the Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs. From September 2002 to July 2006, he was Swiss Ambassador to the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and the Republic of Maldives, with residence in Colombo.

From July 2006 until the end of 2009, he was Swiss Ambassador to the Republic of Indonesia and the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, with residence in Jakarta. Since July 2009, he has also been accredited to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). From December 2009 until May 2014, he was the Swiss Ambassador to Italy, accredited to Malta and the Republic of San Marino. From 2014 to 2018, he was the Swiss Ambassador to France and the Principality of Monaco. His last diplomatic posting was as Swiss Ambassador to China (2019-2022)
