Adhemar Mercado

Lecturer in Philosophy and Letters, Catholic University of Bolivia

Adhemar Mercado is based in Cochabamba at the Catholic University of Bolivia. He obtained his PhD in International Relations at Aberystwyth University in Great Britain. His research explores the different political and social imaginaries, practices, and cosmologies that are at the heart of Andean politics. In particular, his work looks at how everyday practices of resistance by Indigenous and social movements in Bolivia and elsewhere in Latin America have been instrumental in decentring and revealing relations of power and oppression by mobilising alternative political and social imaginaries, cosmologies, and ways of being and knowing. His current work focuses on the role music and religious festivities play in everyday practices of resistance in urban Bolivia.
