Dear colleagues,

Since the start of the negotiations on the EU AI Act (AIA), policymakers, diplomats, industry experts, and civil society actors within and outside of the EU have been attempting to grasp the full impact of this AI legislation and the Brussels effect emanating from the now 200+ pages of provisions. We are pleased to invite you to join us for an afternoon event, ‘Unpacking the EU AI Act | Brussels Effect: EU and AI Governance Worldwide’, with the architect and the lead author of the AIA at the European Commission, Gabriele Mazzini.

Coupled with commentaries by our in-house AI governance expert, Sorina Teleanu, and moderation by our executive director, Jovan Kurbalija, we will dive into questions around the following items:

  • The specifics of the newly adopted regulations and their implications for AI development and usage.
  • The impact of these regulations on global AI governance and regulatory trends.
  • Strategies for compliance and adaptation by businesses, developers, and policymakers worldwide.
  • The role of international organisations and Geneva in shaping a balanced, equitable, and innovative future for AI technology.

The event will take place in situ only, at Diplo (WMO building, 7bis Avenue de la Paix, Genève 1202) from 13:15 to 14:30 on 29 April 2024. As we have limited seats available, we kindly ask you to register as soon as possible, but no later than Thursday, 25 April, EOB.

The event is organised by DiploFoundation and the Geneva Internet Platform (GIP) in partnership with the EU Delegation.

Best regards,

Diplo / GIP team
