[Webinar] Our March IG webinar: Outcomes of ICANN 43

27 March 2012 -

Online

Several issues emerged during the 43rd meeting of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), concluded last week in Costa Rica. We invite you to join us for our March webinar to discuss these issues.

[Update] Scroll down to the section 'Also of Interest' below to read the webinar digest, where you can also listen to or download an audio recording of the webinar.

The new gTLDs programme was rolled out earlier this year. Hundreds of applicants registered their intent to apply for the so-called dot-brands, amid opposition by other major companies relating to the high fees, increased potential for fraud, and defensive registrations.

ICANN has afforded protection to the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies through a procedural exception, with the aim of preventing fraud and misuse. ICANN also afforded similar protection to the International Olympic Committee, in both cases triggering a host of debate.

Our March webinar – on Tuesday, 27th March at 13:00 GMT – will be a timely opportunity to discuss these issues. Our special host, Virginia (Ginger) Paque, Diplo’s IG co-ordinator, who was present at ICANN 43, will lead the discussion. She will be joined by special guests Tracy Hackshaw, from Trinidad and Tobago, and Salanieta Tamanikaiwaimaro, from Fiji, who also attended ICANN 43.

Attendance is free but registration is required.
