[Webinar] Open government: issues and challenges

In the past several years, the Internet has played a significant role in making government information more available and useful to its citizens. The issues of openness and transparency, and the use of technology to empower citizens have attracted considerable attention from citizens, scholars, policymakers, and more.

The July Internet governance webinar will focus on open government and the core challenges associated with this concept. The webinar will be hosted by Veronica Cretu, member of the Steering Committee of the Open Government Partnership, and president of the CMB Training Center in Moldova. Read more about Veronica here.

The webinar will discuss the following in detail:

  • Open government and the impact of the Internet, the key players in open government, and why citizens should be aware and involved.
  • The role of the Open Government Partnership in securing ambitious commitments from member countries, and the open government challenges that are being addressed, including improving public services, increasing public integrity, more effectively managing public resources, creating safer communities, and increasing corporate accountability.

Veronica Cretu 1Veronica Cretu is a civil society Steering Committee member of the Open Government Partnership, and a coordinator of the civil society working group on E-Government/Open Government (part of the Moldova National Participation Council). She is a member of the Multistakeholder Advisory Group (MAG) to the Internet Governance Forum and member of ICANN’s Nominating Committee. She is also a member of the Civil Society Advisory Group on Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment to UN in Moldova. Veronica is a former DiploFoundation IGCBP tutor and research supervisor.
