Today’s headlines often feature the word ‘cyber’, reporting on threats related to the virtual world: online child abuse, stolen credit cards and virtual identities, malware and viruses, “botnets” and “denial-of-service attacks” on corporate or government servers, cyberespionage, cyber-war notion and cyber-attacks on critical infrastructure including nuclear facilities and power supply networks.

Following real-world cyber-conflict cases (such as the attacks on Estonia and Georgia and the reactions of NATO, the Stuxnet virus, US-China alleges on cyber-espionage, etc) diplomats are also growingly faced with cyber-security issues on the top of the agenda, and obliged to understand them and prepare their working strategy.

In this webinar Vladimir Radunovic, Diplo’s cybersecurity expert, will provide reflections to the following questions:

  • What are the real cybersecurity challenges – main threats and cyber-weapons (malware, “botnets”, “DDoS” attacks, etc)?
  • How do the governments react to cyber-threats: through extended cooperation or militarisation?
  • How does international cooperation in cybersecurity work, what is the role of diplomacy and what are the roles of the various stakeholders?
