About a year from now, a high-level meeting will be convened at the UN General Assembly to review the implementation of the outcomes of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS). The recently adopted Global Digital Compact (GDC) called on this WSIS+20 review to identify how processes and forums emanating from WSIS can support the contribution of stakeholders to the implementation of the Compact. So what next?
At our briefing on 5 December 2024, we will:
- Map the next steps in the lead-up to the WSIS+20 high-level review in 2025 and see who is expected to do what (e.g. at the CSTD level, by the UN Secretary-General, at the General Assembly level). In doing so, we will also look back at the WSIS outcomes and the WSIS+10 review.
- Look at ongoing and upcoming activities related to the implementation of the GDC and their relevance for the WSIS+20 review.
- Explore the interplay between GDC and WSIS outcomes implementation, follow-up and review, and discuss concrete options (and their feasibility and desirability) in this regard.
