Jovan Kurbalija delivered the keynote address, ‘Future of Mediation,’ at the Graduation Ceremony for participants of the Advanced Capacity Building Programme on Conflict Resolution, Mediation, and Negotiation. The programme was held from Monday, 24 February, to Friday, 7 March 2025.
The event brought together mediators and diplomats from Algeria, Burundi, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Lesotho, Mali, Somalia, South Sudan, Guinea Conakry, Nigeria, Egypt, Zimbabwe, Namibia, and Madagascar.
Kurbalija structured his keynote into three main segments. First, he explained the core principles of AI—patterns and probabilities—using national flags as an illustrative example. Second, he described creating an AI agent focused on ‘Women in Mediation,’ a tool directly relevant to the programme participants. This AI agent serves as a practical resource for applying the knowledge gained during the training.

Finally, Kurbalija anchored the use of AI and digital tools in ‘one day of a cyber mediator.’ By following mediation of Ana Gabel, fictious moderator, you can learn about use of AI and digital stools and every step of mediation from preparation—such as analyzing social media coverage—to the mediation process itself and reaching a compromise.
