The conference co-hosted by the European Union Delegation to the UN in Geneva, the Permanent Mission of Austria in Geneva, and the Geneva Internet Platform will be held on 10 October in Geneva, Switzerland.
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) entered into effect on 25 May 2018, completing the process of intensive debate and reflection on how to best protect EU citizens’ personal data, and how to balance this with the legitimate interests of business operators. Several countries and regional organisations outside the EU, from the EU’s immediate neighbourhood to Asia, Latin America, and Africa are also adopting or updating data protection legislation.
This event aims to discuss the increasing convergence of data protection norms at international level and its potential to benefit human rights, trade and international co-operation. It will also look at the consequence of the new European GDPR on international data flows from citizens’ and businesses perspective.
The full programme will be available soon. You can register here.
