The African Union Commission together with the Council of Europe will organise a two-day workshop on ‘International cyber security and cybercrime policies for African diplomats based in Addis Ababa’ on 12–13 April 2018, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. DiploFoundation will be represented by Dr Katharina Höne, who will speak about the impact of new technologies and the practice of diplomacy, and share insights from Diplo’s more than 15 years of experience in capacity building.
The African Union Commission, in cooperation with the Council of Europe, is organising a workshop on ‘International cyber security and cybercrime policies for African diplomats based in Addis Ababa’, on 12–13 April 2018, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The workshop will focus on issues related to cybersecurity and cybercrime policies and diplomacy. It will address the cybersecurity readiness of African countries, while also looking at international efforts in promoting confidence and trust in the use of ICTs and the Internet. The event will provide participants with an opportunity to acquire a deep understanding on matters such as security and resilience in cyberspace, Internet jurisdiction, challenges related to cybercrime investigations, norms of responsible state behaviour in cyberspace, and the notion of cyber treaties.
Targeted at the diplomatic community in Addis Ababa, the workshop will also explore issues related to diplomatic negotiations, discussions, and consultations on cybersecurity and cybercrime matters, including with regard to the misuse of ICTs and the potential implications on national and international security.
