Upcoming study opportunities

2016 Master/Postgraduate Diploma in Contemporary Diplomacy

DiploFoundation is now accepting applications for the 2016 Master/PGD in Contemporary Diplomacy, and the Master/PGD in Contemporary Diplomacy with an Internet Governance specialisation. These unique postgraduate programmes, offered in cooperation with the University of Malta, include a 10-day residential workshop in Malta followed by 16-20 months of online learning. Scholarships covering 20–50% of the Postgraduate Diploma fee are available for applicants from small and developing states. The programme starts on 1 February 2016. The application deadline is 1 October 2015 for international applicants and 15 November 2015 for Maltese applicants.

Workshop in Malta: Legal Instruments for the Internet Economy

A plethora of issues needs to be addressed by both developing and developed countries, spanning areas such as: the commercial environment, data protection and freedom of information, regulation of the telecommunications sector and competition law, and governance of the Internet with a focus on cybercrime and cybersecurity. Join us for the pan-Commonwealth training workshop Legal Instruments for the Internet Economy, in Malta 14-19 September 2015. The workshop is organised by DiploFoundation on behalf of the Government of Malta and in association with the Commonwealth Secretariat, and is intended primarily for government officials and professionals holding senior to middle-management positions related to ICT and telecoms regulation. Workshop in Malta: Modern Diplomacy for Small States

The Modern Diplomacy for Small States workshop will take place in Malta, 30 September – 9 October 2015. It is organised by DiploFoundation, and sponsored by the Government of Malta and the Commonwealth Fund for Technical Cooperation (CFTC). Applicants from Commonwealth countries may apply for a scholarship which covers the cost of the training course and accommodation. Asia Cyber Diplomacy Workshop: 28-29 August 2015 (Bangkok, Thailand)

How should diplomats respond to modern cyber challenges? What topics are on the international digital agenda? What is the interplay between international, regional, and national digital policy processes? Join us for a just-in-time Asia Cyber Diplomacy Workshop, which will address cyber challenges for modern diplomacy. We are pleased to invite diplomats and other government officials from the Asian region. This training workshop will give participants an overview of the multidisciplinary field of cyber diplomacy (including technical, legal, economic, sociocultural, and developmental aspects) focusing on the main digital topics on the international agenda (cybersecurity, online freedoms, openness, and economic growth), and explain the interplay between international, regional and national digital policy processes. French translation of Internet Governance book

The sixth edition of Dr Jovan Kurbalija's An Introduction to Internet Governance is now available in French. Although Internet governance deals with the core of the digital world, governance cannot be handled with the digital-binary logic of the true or false, or good or bad. Instead, the subject demands many subtleties and shades of meaning and perception, requiring an analogue approach, covering a continuum of options and compromises. The aim of this book, now in its sixth edition, is to provide a comprehensive overview of the main issues and actors in the field through a practical framework for analysis, discussion, and resolution of significant issues. Join us online: Webinar on Internet governance developments

Join us on 25 August for the Geneva Internet Platform’s next webinar briefing on Internet governance developments. Although the summer months are expected to be quieter, many developments have taken place: from new laws which will impact cybersecurity and surveillance, to further developments in the WSIS+10 review and IANA transition processes.
