Seeing the world differently
Maps can allow us to see the world from different perspectives. The following two maps follow traditional state borders, but each illustrates data about these states we do not commonly think about when looking at a map. The first map, published by the Global Policy Forum, illustrates the rating of states according to the Gini Coefficient, an expression of national income equality. It is argued that this is a valuable tool used to compare and interpret inequalities in wealth globally. The second map illustrates the dominant social media networks in different countries, provoking questions about the reasons for, as well as the consequences of, this distribution.
