Internet Governance Capacity Building Course for India
This year, from December 3 to 6, the third United Nations Internet Governance Forum will be held in . In preparation for the Forum, DiploFoundation and the National Internet Exchange of India will offer an online Internet Governance Capacity Building Course for 30 Indian students from 1 September to 15 November 2008. The two-month course will present various Internet governance issues such as management of Internet domains, cyber-security, and privacy. The course will also emphasise involvement in international Internet governance policy-making processes. Participants will include computer specialists, academics, officials and other involved in Internet governance issues in . Students will participate through an online learning platform that supports a variety of interactive learning and communication tools, permitting both synchronous and asynchronous learning activities.

Diplo Works with UN on Capacity Building Initiative
Diplo’s expertise in online training will contribute to a new online course offered by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), beginning late October 2008. This course, a capacity building initiative on the part of UNOCD, focuses on the universal legal regime against terrorism and will assist criminal justice officials and other individuals involved in counter-terrorism to develop skills and knowledge required by treaties and resolutions adopted within the UN system between 1963 and 2005.
The course is offered free of charge and priority will be given to applicants from developing countries. It is open to criminal justice officers, practicing diplomats, civil servants, and others who work in the legal areas of international cooperation in criminal matters, or are involved in drafting of criminal law.

Firestorm in Swedish Media over “EU Blogger Registry”
Swedish media have erroneously reported that the EU plans to register and bill all bloggers, setting off a firestorm of reaction in the country. Politicians of all political stripes and most major media outlets have since furiously attacked the idea, while the MEP at the heart of the controversy has been compared to Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceausescu.
