Diplo awarded UN consultative status

Diplo was awarded Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council in June 2006. This status grants access to meetings, conferences, and the ability to give presentations and statements within relevant processes.
The structural framework of a building under construction has open floors identified with digital issues like human rights, sociocultural, economic development, legal, cybersecurity, and infrastructure, with individuals and groups working on smaller project issues on each floor. A free-standing sign, to the left, titled ‘Under construction by:’ lists different actors and stakeholder groups. On the right, a forklift delivers large boxes labelled common heritage, public good, and global commons. Another sign saying ‘Net neutrality’ hangs on a lift, while freedom of expression is announced repeatedly on a loudspeaker. Other details depict references to digital policy issues and relationships.

UN Working Group on Internet Governance

In November 2004, Secretary General Kofi Annan created the Working Group on Internet Governance to discuss the future of internet governance, comprising 40 experts. Dr. Jovan Kurbalija represented Diplo and the Global Knowledge Partnership in this group.

Internet guide for diplomats

The Internet Guide for Diplomats, published in 2000 by Jovan Kurbalija and Stefano Baldi, was the inaugural resource designed to aid diplomats and international affairs professionals in utilizing the Internet effectively. It encompassed fundamental technical details about the Internet and addressed pertinent issues relevant to diplomatic Internet usage.

First postgraduate accredited course

In 1999, DiploProjects collaborated with the University of Malta to introduce the first Postgraduate Diploma course in and Diplomacy. It attracted 14 participants from 9 countries, with a blended learning approach including a workshop in Malta and online sessions. This course later developed into the Master in Contemporary Diplomacy, continuing to be provided by Diplo and the University of Malta.
