How to break down silos across defence, diplomacy and development?
Updated on 05 April 2024
Breaking down silos between 3D (defence, diplomacy and development) is in a focus of many countries.
The United States has been reinvigorated by Biden’s administration and his appointment of Samantha Power as USAID administrator and elevated the role to the National Security Council “to ensure our development agenda is a core pillar of our foreign policy”. They are likely to build on the 3D approach of secretary of state Hillary Clinton.
The UK 3D strategy is emerging from an Integrated Review of Security, Defence, Development and Foreign Policy.
Australia initiated the Asia-Pacific Development, Diplomacy & Defence Dialogue (AP4D) and hosted the first regional workshop as reported by www.themandarin.com.au
Overcoming policy silos between these pillars of global policy will remain one of the main challenges on national, regional and global levels.
