The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is a UN agency dedicated to helping to achieve the eradication of poverty, and the reduction of inequalities and exclusion around the world. The agency's activities cover three main areas: sustainable development, democratic governance and peacebuilding, and climate and disaster resilience.
UNDP is a supporter and promoter of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and it works on assisting countries in achieving the 17 new Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
UNDP also supports information and communications technology (ICT) development activities, and it provides assistance to UN member states in creating an enabling environment for economic and social growth through the use of ICTs. It is one of the specialised UN agencies appointed by the Tunis Agenda of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) to follow up on specific WSIS action lines, in the areas of capacity building, enabling environment, e-government, and international and regional cooperation.
