The PCI Security Standards Council is an open global forum that is responsible for the development, maintenance, management, enhancement, and promotion of Payment Card Industry (PCI) Security Standards. Some of the standards developed by the Council include: the Data Security Standard (PCI DSS), the Payment Application Data Security Standard (PA-DSS), and the PIN Transaction Security (PTS) requirements.

The Council also provides tools needed for implementation of the adopted standards, such as assessment and scanning qualifications, self-assessment questionnaires, training and education, and product certification programmes.
