The International Forum on Diplomatic Training (IFDT) was established in 1972 as an annual meeting of deans of academic institutes of international relations and commensurate disciplines devoted to the study of diplomacy, and directors of diplomatic academies focused on training of practitioners.

Meetings are held annually, hosted by a member institution on a rotating basis among regions. The annual meetings are devoted to the discussion and exchange of information about recent trends in diplomatic education, including programmes, methods, and tools, and emerging and significant issues confronting modern diplomacy for both the scholar and the practitioner.

The Forum also offers an unparalleled opportunity for networking among colleagues charged with the education and training of future and current diplomats. Members are the directors and deans of academies and institutions educatin graduate students or young professionals in diplomacy-related theory and practice, including faculties of international relations and commensurate disciplines within universities, or are diplomatic academies or government affiliated-training institutes for official diplomats.

The IFDT currently has appr. 80 members from 65 countries from all continents.
