Childnet International is a non-profit organisation working in the area of child online safety. Childnet’s mission is to work in partnership with others around the world to help make the Internet a great and safe place for children.
The work of the organisation focuses on three main dimensions: assisting children and young people in developing the knowledge and skills necessary in order to use the Internet in a safe and responsible manner; providing training programmes to parents, carers, and teachers, to help them understand how to contribute to keeping children safe online; and providing advice and assistance to the Internet industry and to governmental entities in matters related to the promotion and protection of children's rights online.
Childnet provides guidance on a wide range of topics pertaining to child online safety, such as: social networking, online gaming, parental control tools, cyberbullying, etc. In addition, it works to include youth engagement and youth voice in both its education and awareness work, but also its policy work. It has run the Youth IGF Project, taking young people to the Internet Governance Forum in different parts of the world, enabling them to engage directly in discussions with policy makers and sharing their issues, experiences and ideas.
