Stakeholder group: NGOs and associations

APNIC is one of the five Regional Internet Registries (RIRs), the organisations that manage the allocation and registration of Internet number resources - Internet protocol (IP) addresses and autonomous system (AS) numbers - within a particular region of the world.

APNIC distributes Internet numbers to the Local Internet Registries (LIRs), providers and Internet users in Asia-Pacific region, and maintains the public Whois database for the region. It is also involved, together with the extended Internet community in the region, in the development of procedures, mechanisms, and standards to facilitate the efficient allocation of Internet resources. Additionally, the centre contributes to the development of Internet infrastructure in Asia-Pacific, through the provision of training and education services (on issues such as IPv6 and DNSSEC), supporting technical activities such as root server deployments, and collaborating with other regional and international organisations.
