Diplo Participates in GKP Initiatives
Diplo will participate intensively in Global Knowledge Partnership (GKP) activities in May, 2005. The annual GKP meeting, focussing on the Middle East and North Africa region, will be held in Cairo in early May. Diplo will organise a panel titled "Internet Governance – Myths and Facts." A week later, the GKP will have an important presence at the UNESCO-hosted meeting in St. Petersburg, which will focus on multistakeholder partnerships. Diplo, the GKP, and other GKP member organisations are also jointly running the Internet Governance Capacity Building Programme, which aims to provide training for more than 40 participants from developing countries; and the Multistakeholder Partnership Research project.
Internet Governance Priorities for the Asia-Pacific: Summary Analysis of a Regional Survey
The UNDP's Asia-Pacific Development Information Programme (APDIP) conducted a survey on Internet Governance priorities that targeted all stakeholder groups in the Asia-Pacific region. The survey was conducted under the auspices of the Open Regional Dialogue on Internet Governance (ORDIG), whose main objective is to make Internet Governance more inclusive, development-oriented, and responsive to the specific needs of stakeholders in the Asia-Pacific region, soliciting views on twenty-two potential issues of importance in Internet Governance.
In brief, a total of 1,243 valid questionnaires from 37 countries of the region and all major stakeholder groups, in 12 major languages were received. For a full analysis, UNDP-APDIP invites you to read through the survey report.
As part of its initiative to foster Internet policies that are inclusive, equitable, and responsive to development concerns UNDP-APDIP held a five week multistakeholder Online Forum on Internet Governance Priorities for the Asia-Pacific Region, from January 13 to February 17, 2005. More than 180 participants from civil society, the public and the private sector of 27 countries in the Asia-Pacific region engaged in a very lively dialogue that clearly indicated that Internet Governance is neither abstract, nor the exclusive domain of industrialised countries or engineers.
