Call for Papers – Second International Conference on Web-Management in Diplomacy
DiploProject's Second International Confe-rence on Web-Management in Diplomacy will take place in February 2002, in Malta. We invite you to present a paper in your area of expertise, related to web-management in diplomacy. Conference themes include the role of the Internet in diplomacy and international relations; information management; the Internet, diplomacy and security; Internet and the law; and Internet – trends, standards and hype. We will consider any contribution on one of the conference themes.

European Governance Website
The European Commission presents its White Paper on European Governance to the public, on its Governance Website. The Paper contains a set of recommendations for enhancing democracy in Europe and increasing the legitimacy of institutions. The Governance Website makes use of a variety of IT tools to allow visitors to become involved and interact around the creation of governance policy. As well as downloading the complete White Paper in a variety of languages, visitors can contribute to a debate on the Future of Europe by posting messages to an online discussion board or sending e-mail messages. Visitors can subscribe or contribute to an electronic newsletter which provided information about the preparatory work on the White Paper, and will continue to provide information about debates and upcoming events. A number of reference documents and relevant links are also available on the website.
Citizen Diplomacy
Sister Cities International is a non-profit citizen diplomacy network which creates and coordinates partnerships between US and international communities in an effort to increase global cooperation at the municipal level, to promote cultural understanding, and to stimulate economic development. Currently, the organisation works with over 2,500 communities in 137 countries around the world. Sister Cities helps communities to organise joint projects and programs, including educational exchanges, business development opportunities and information sharing on issues such as healthcare and the environment, involving citizens, local governments, businesses, media, private voluntary organisations, and educational institutions in the process. Through participating in these initiatives, local citizens are able to become involved in solutions to global challenges, and to learn about and connect with people from other cultures.
