We are still accepting applications for the upcoming short online courses starting in April 2007:

Courses allow working diplomats and others involved in international relations to continue their education by learning about new topics in the field of diplomacy, or to expand and refresh their knowledge of more traditional topics. Courses require 10 weeks of part-time study, typically 6 to 8 hours per week. Successful participants receive a postgraduate level certificate from DiploFoundation.

NOTE – only a few places are left in 21st Century Diplomacy. We recommend that you register soon if you wish to attend this course.

The application deadline for courses beginning in April 2007 is March 26, 2007. For further information, click on the titles of the courses above, or visit the Diplo website.

Diplomacy Island and Second Life

On March 6, 2007, Diplo initiated Diplomacy Island in the virtual world of Second Life. Second Life is a fast-growing virtual community with more than 4 million “citizens.” Through Diplomacy Island, Diplo will explore new possibilities for diplomatic representation and interaction. It will be another channel for Diplo’s main mission of assisting small and developing countries to participate meaningfully in international   relations. Virtual embassies will present typical diplomatic functions of small and developing nations (representation, cultural affairs, consular activities); they will also serve to sensitise various communities in Second Life to the development needs of small developing countries. Along with small developing countries, other countries will have the possibility to open virtual embassies in the 'Diplomatic Quarter'.

Internet Governance Capacity Building Programme 2007

DiploFoundation launched the Internet Governance Capacity Building Programme for 2007 last week. From 570 applications originating in 92 developing countries, Diplo selected 138 participants and formed eight regional groups. In response to requests made by previous years’ participants from Latin America, we have also put together a Spanish/English bilingual group of participants mainly from the Latin American region. Two bilingual Spanish-speaking facilitators will supervise this group.

All 138 participants will attend the seven month programme, consisting of an online course stage (March – June 2007) and a research project stage (July-September 2007). A number of the participants will be nominated for fellowships.

For further information regarding the programme, please go to the Diplo IG CBP website.
