Diplo at the Internet Governance Forum
A group of participants, tutors, coordinators, and other associates of DiploFoundation’s Internet Governance Capacity Building Programme will participate in the fourth Internet Governance Forum meeting in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, between November 15 and 18, 2009. The Forum is the main annual gathering on Internet governance, and promises to attract close to 2000 diplomats, officials, computer specialists, and academics. It is also the pinnacle of Diplo’s capacity building programme. Through various sponsorships from the International Telecommunication Union, Canada, and the Commonwealth Secretariat, close to 40 participants will take part in the Forum. The fellows will participate in workshops and in numerous side activities organised by Diplo. Diplo is dedicating a special website for the event. Books on Diplomacy in November
As we know that diplomats have little time to fit reading and study into their schedules, we hope that a monthly review of new publications may assist in choosing some of the most relevant. This month, we offer a title relevant to Internet governance issues.
Jeremy Malcolm. Multi-Stakeholder Governance and the Internet Governance Forum. Terminus Press, 2008.
For those new to this field, Malcolm offers a comprehensive overview of Internet governance, touching upon multi-stakeholder diplomacy, questions of governance, and international law. In beginning, he offers an overview of the history of the Internet and past developments in Internet governance. The book ends with a comprehensive overview of recent developments in this area, including the World Summit on the Information Society and the Internet Governance Forum, and an overview of the current elements of the Internet governance regime.
