Iranian and Tanzanian foreign ministers discuss diplomacy, call for enhanced relations

Iran’s Foreign Minister, Hossein Amirabdollahian, engaged in a phone call with his Tanzanian counterpart, Yusuf Makamba, on 9 April 2024. During the conversation, Amirabdollahian conveyed Eid al-Fitr greetings and emphasized the expansion of relations between the two countries across various sectors. He proposed convening a meeting of the Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation to further bilateral ties.

Furthermore, Amirabdollahian extended an invitation to Makamba to visit Tehran to finalize agreements between the nations and prepare for a presidential meeting. He also highlighted Iran’s efforts to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, denouncing the actions of the Zionist regime.

In response, Makamba condemned the attack on Iran’s embassy in Damascus and expressed Tanzania’s solidarity with Iran. He welcomed the prospect of a presidential visit and the establishment of a joint economic cooperation commission, affirming Tanzania’s readiness to open an embassy in Tehran.
