Mozambican foreign minister participates in Antalya diplomacy forum in Turkey


Verónica Macamo, Mozambique’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, represented President Filipe Nyusi at the Antalya Diplomacy Forum in Turkey from 29 February to 2 March 2024. The forum focuses on “Advancing Diplomacy in Times of Turmoil” in its third edition. The forum aims to lead discussions on peace-building amidst contemporary global challenges. She accepted the invitation from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Macamo to participate as a guest speaker in the panel discussion “Realizing the Potential of Africa,” alongside Foreign Ministers from Cameroon, Gabon, and Zimbabwe, as well as the Secretary General of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

The introductory statement for the panel “Realising the Potential of Africa” highlights Africa’s significant challenges alongside its vast potential, particularly in terms of its young population, abundant resources, and diplomatic traditions. It underscores the continent’s capacity to address global issues and emphasizes the importance of leveraging collective efforts for fair governance, environmental sustainability, and development.
