Public International Law Day 2018

27 November 2018 -

Geneva, Switzerland

The Public International Law Day is organised by the Directorate of International Law (DIL) of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) in co-operation with the Geneva Internet Platform (GIP). The Public International Law Day aims to address the subject of international law and promoting Switzerland’s engagement in that field. The event will take place on 27 November at the Maison de la Paix in Geneva.

The 2018 edition will focus on how international law deals with questions of digital transformation and cybersecurity. An inclusive, free, and stable digital environment serves as a paradigm of peace and security, as well as the framework to boost the respect of human rights and the participation of all citizens in the democratic process. However, malicious cyber activities carried out by state and non-state actors as well as the misuse of persona data identify the need for an innovative approach to cope with these digital developments.

The targeted audience of the event are legal, technical and policy experts, representatives from states and academia, private actors, and companies.

Participation is free of charge. Registrations are open,  the registration deadline is 23rd November 2018.

The detailed programme is now available.
