[Briefing] Internet governance in October 2016

New bilateral agreements on cybersecurity, Internet-related outages across the world, and heightened discussions on the challenges surrounding Artificial Intelligence and the Internet of Things were among the main developments this month. Other developments included a European Court of Justice ruling on Dynamic IPs and Facebook’s intention of launching Free Basics in the USA. Every last Tuesday of the month, the Internet governance briefings provide a ‘zoomed-out’ update of the major global IG and digital policies developments. They are delivered live from Geneva (WMO Building, 2nd floor, 7 bis Avenue de la Paix), and broadcast online.

Regional perspectives

Local hubs in Indonesia, Brazil, Tunis and South Eastern Europe will share their regional perspectives:

  • The South Eastern European hub is organised in collaboration with the South Eastern European Dialogue on Internet Governance (SEEDIG), and will be hosted at Diplo Centar, Branicevska 12a/12, Belgrade, Serbia. Registrations closed.
    • A summary of October developments and activities related to Internet governance and digital policy in South Eastern Europe is available, and will be presented during the hub’s meeting. 
  • Rio de Janeiro hub will be hosted by Center for Technology and Society of the Getulio Vargas Foundation, and will take place at ‘Praia de Botafogo, 190, 13 andar. Local time: 10am-11am (BRT).  Registrations closed.

  • The Tunis hub organised by Hivos IG MENA, will be hosted by the Tunisian Internet Agency at the 404 Lab 13 Jugurtha Street, Mutuelle ville, Tunis.
