Strengthening parliamentary diplomacy between Vietnam and Indonesia
The visit of Vietnam’s National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue and a high-ranking delegation to Indonesia is seen as a significant move in parliamentary diplomacy between the two countries.
Fadli Zon, Chairperson of the Committee for Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation of the House of Representatives of Indonesia, expressed his hope that the visit will strengthen the roles of the Indonesian and Vietnamese legislative bodies as bridges connecting the two countries and their people.
The visit aims to promote bilateral cooperation in politics, economy, culture, and social affairs. Areas of potential cooperation include agriculture and electric vehicle production. The visit also seeks to enhance people-to-people exchanges and tourism activities to foster mutual understanding and comprehensive cooperation.
The People’s Consultative Assembly of Indonesia has maintained good relations with the Vietnamese National Assembly, particularly in the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA). Both legislatures often discuss regional issues and have supported each other at international parliamentary forums.
The Vietnamese delegation has made important contributions to the draft resolution on strengthening parliamentary diplomacy in the field of maritime security, launched by Indonesia last year. Fadli Zon praised the successful organization of the 14th meeting of the AIPA Caucus by the Vietnamese National Assembly, which provided a platform for ASEAN countries’ parliaments to report on the implementation of their commitments and resolutions. The visit aims to further promote ASEAN’s goal of strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation.
