Mango diplomacy between Bangladesh and India

Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina sent mangoes to Indian President Ramnath Kobind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, just like last year. The mango was delivered on 12th June as a gift to the respective diplomatic channels by the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi, India.

Mango diplomacy aims to strengthen the already solid relationship and friendship between the two countries and create goodwill for the conclusion of the Teesta water-sharing agreement, one of the main open issues between Bangladesh and India. While the central Indian government favours the signing of the Teesta agreement, the main opposition comes from the government of West Bengal.

There is a hope that with the help of mango diplomacy this water-sharing issue between two countries can be settled.
