The New Media landscape
Updated on 05 April 2024
New Media is a broad term that can refer to everything from interactive photo and video displays to social blogging platforms, and those who are able to integrate all types of media into compelling narratives will be the most successful journalists.
I read this paragraph on a blog dealing with the new media landscape and it got me thinking. While the post is directed at journalists, it would seem to me that anyone involved in communicating with a public might find the resources listed useful. In fact, given the increasing demands on diplomats to communicate with diaspora using social media, we might well tag on ‘… and diplomats’ to the end of said paragraph.
Don’t be put off by the focus on journalists. There’s sure to be something of interest. I spent a lot of time with Shreeya Sinha on her site and the word ‘compelling’ kept coming to mind. The Common Sense site is other one that caught my eye. The New Media Toolkit site highlights free tools available and has an interesting feature on blogging. PBS’s Mediashift site deals with social media, too.
If you’re interested in what journalists are up to, and how social media and its accompanying tools are changing how we communicate, you could do worse than have a scroll through The New Media Landscape: 105 Vital Sources for Journalists.
