Hermès enters the metaverse

The French luxury brand Hermès has filed a trademark application for its name, signaling its plans to enter the metaverse. This was revealed by metaverse trademark attorney Michael Kondoudis. According to the trademark application submitted to the US Patent and Trademark Office on 26 August, the company aims to offer retail store services featuring virtual goods, and fashion shows and exhibitions in a virtual world, as well as virtual currency for virtual goods (i.e. digital collectables and NFTs). Interestingly, other fashion brands have also shown interest in virtual worlds. Earlier this year, Decentraland’s Metaverse Fashion Week, a fashion event featuring wearables on virtual runways, featured luxury brands such as Dolce & Gabbana, Etro, Tommy Hilfiger, Estée Lauder, and Elie Saab.
