The United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) works on promoting global norms in the area of disarmament. Its objective is to foster disarmament measures through dialogue, transparency and confidence-building on military matters, and encourages regional disarmament efforts. It also provides information on disarmament issues to UN member states and other actors (civil society organisations, research institutions, other UN bodies, etc.).
Information security is on the agenda of UNODA's activities, the office being involved in coordinating analysis and reports reflecting views of UN member states and work undertaken by other UN bodies on this issue, as well as examining existing and potential cyber-threats. One example in this regard is the support provided by UNODA in the elaboration of a study on Developments in the Field of Information and Telecommunications in the Context of International Security.
