The OpenFog Consortium is a not-for-profit organisation whose main aim is to promote the adoption of distributed computing, networking, and storage architectures and technical best practices ('fog computing'). Members of the Consortium include ICT companies, telecom providers, and universities.
The organisation's activity is dedicated to the creation of a framework for efficient and reliable networks and intelligent endpoints, combined with identifiable, secure, and privacy-friendly information flows between clouds, endpoints, and services, based on open standard technologies. To this aim, its working groups focus on the creation of an open architecture for fog computing, to enable interoperability and scalability. Such an architecture of distributing comouting, network, storage, control, and resources is expected to support intelligence at the edge of the Internet of Things (IoT), therefore accelerating IoT-related innovation and progress. At the same time, work is done on the identification, sharing, and application of best practices in advance technologies around fog computing.
