Stakeholder group: NGOs and associations
The Anti-Phishing Working Group (APWG) is a worldwide coalition of private companies and associations, governmental entities and intergovernmental organisations dedicated to fighting against cybercrime.
APWG provides clearinghouses of cybercrime event data and cybercrime response utilities for professionals from the private, public, and NGO sectors who combat cybercrime. It also organises conferences for cybercrime management professionals, and an example in this regard is the annual Symposium on Electronic Crime Research, dedicated exclusively to cybercrime studies, and proceedings of which are published by the IEEE. In addition, the organisation is involved in cybecrime awareness raising and capacity building initiatives, such as the STOP. THINK. CONNECT. cybersecurity awareness campaign. APWG is also involved in the development of standards for cybercrime data exchange.
An Internet Policy Committee was formed within APWG in 2006, with the aim to help Internet policy makers understand evolving electronic-crime threats and assist in the development of domain name system (DNS) and other Internet-related policies that protect Internet users and organisations from e-crime.
The organisation publishes quarterly reports on trends in phishing attacks.
