Stakeholder group: NGOs and associations

The Alliance for Internet of Things Innovation (AIOTI) was initiated by the European Commission in 2015, with the aim to strengthen the dialogue and interaction among Internet of Things (IoT) players in Europe, and to contribute to the creation of a dynamic European IoT ecosystem to speed up the take up of IoT. The Alliance became a legal entity in 2016.

Other objectives of the Alliance include: fostering experimentation, replication, and deployment of IoT, and supporting convergence and interoperability of IoT standards; gathering evidence on market obstacles for IoT deployment; and mapping and bridging global, EU, and member states' IoT innovation activities.

Members of the Alliance are key IoT industrial players, well-known European research centers and universities as well as various European associations and public bodies. Some of the largest companies but also successful SMEs and dynamic start-ups are among AIOTI members.

Most of AIOTI activities are carried out through its working groups, which focus on various areas of development in the field of IoT: research, innovation, policy issues, standards, and various horizontal activities covering the most 'hot' IoT current topics.
