African Network Information Center
The African Network Information Center (AFRINIC) is one of the five Regional Internet Registries (RIRs), the organisations that manage the allocation of Internet number resources - Internet protocol (IP) addresses and autonomous system (AS) numbers - within a particular region of the world.
AFRINIC distributes Internet numbers to the Local Internet Registries (LIRs), providers, and Internet users in Africa; manages the regional Whois service, which provide information about who is behind a website or IP address; produces statistics; provides technical training on issues such as IPv6 and DNSSEC planning and deployment; and develops regional policy in its area of competence.
