Public diplomacy for South African diplomats

10 September 2012

In September 2012, Diplo faculty members Dr Alex Sceberras Trigona, Liz Galvez and Pete Cranston ran a five-day workshop on ‘Public Diplomacy’ at the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO), in Pretoria. The participants included senior staff, a group from the armed forces and police, and a group of energetic middle and more junior managers. Presentations and discussions around traditional public diplomacy topics were interspersed with sessions focusing on e-diplomacy. The workshop led up to a group exercise in developing an outline strategy and plans for South Africa’s imminent chairing role in the African Union.
